Quick Info Meta Glasses

The Ray-Ban Meta Glasses were designed to a target group that is style-conscious and wants to integrate videos into social media. Content creators and music lovers benefit the most from the live streaming and music control functions.

Meta Glasses were not designed specifically for the visually impaired or vision deficit person. However, in many instances the Meta glasses have been found to be helpful for the vision deficit community.

These glasses are not designed to replace critical tools like white canes or guide dogs. They are not suitable for recognizing medications, specific people, or performing tasks related to health and safety. The glasses’ AI is not intended for precise navigation, sensors cannot perform depth detection, at times  does not read words verbatim, a AI summary of the text, is available, 3D mapping or advanced tracking, cannot identify health hazards, or make decisions about personal safety. They should be viewed as a supplementary aid rather than a primary accessibility solution.

A potential candidate should have a complete independent accessibility skills assessment and be able to successfully use a smartphone. Be able to connect to WiFi and Bluetooth to use, have WhatsApp downloaded to use for making phone calls and be able to delete any pictures and videos that have been downloaded to the phone. (Best to have an unlimited data and text feature on phone plan).

Features:

Live streaming: One of the standout features is the ability to stream directly to Facebook or Instagram. (This why they are called Meta Glasses). This particularly appeals to social media influencers/content creators.

Listen to Music via: Spotify and Amazon Music (need app downloaded on phone) can be controlled with voice commands or hand gestures.

Meta Glasses are heavily tailored to the meta-AI ecosystem (Facebook or Instagram) and does not use ChatGPT AI.

Initial setup of the Meta Glasses to the smartphone via the Meta View app can be difficult and time consuming.

Glasses can only be charged through the carrying case. (a replacement case can cost up to $175.00).  A USB C charger is needed for charging and does not come with the glasses. If the case is lost glasses are not able to be charged. The average charge is about 6 hours for the glasses, but the smartphone also needs to be charged so the App can run the glasses.

There are 5 speakers: two on each temple and one above the bridge (nose) area.

A physical button on temple is pressed once to take a picture, press and hold to record a video, and press once to stop recording video. Right corner of glasses there is the LED light to indicate that you are recording. A light flashes on the front of glasses when picture is taken, light stays on when videoing.

Meta View App needs to be downloaded to smartphone (iPhone & Android) You have to create an account or log in via Facebook, Instagram, or email account.

“Hey Meta “is the preferred  voice command need to activate functions of glasses. Must have a strong vocal capability for glasses to hear the command. Customazation can be made in the app.
